Build Your Own Waffles

by Matt on May 31, 2011

When I asked Heather this morning what she wanted for breakfast (I actually had a heart attack when she said she didn’t want cereal), she instantly requested waffles.

We used Hodgson Mill Gluten Free Pancake and Waffle Mix (with chia seeds added in)

The mix was actually pretty good. The waffles were light and fluffy, but still pretty filling without being wheaty or grainy.

Because we both like to have different toppings, we made a “toppings bar.”

It included…

  • Organic honey
  • Organic strawberry jam
  • Chunky peanut butter
  • Organic cherry vanilla peanut butter
  • Organic maple syrup
  • Organic bananas

Good morning!

By the way, this peanut butter makes me swoon (Heather apparently doesn’t swoon) is magical.

She also claims that she may be smuggling it on the plane. TSA people, watch out!

For him…

For her…

What are your favorite waffle toppings?

To continue “build your own day,” we are making omeletes tonight. I wonder what I’ll have in mine…

It’s nice to see some pictures of Heather since she doesn’t post many of herself on her blog. She’s gorgeous!

Your ‘his’ and ‘her’ waffles look strangely identical. I wonder how you got your honey to drip on the bananas exactly the same way… :)

FYI, there is a difference between honey and maple syrup. Also, one of them has jam.

I wish I looked that awesome in the morning (I’m talking about Heather, not the waffles)!
And I don’t eat waffles very often but when I do I prefer just pure maple syrup on top. :)

yumm, your waffles look great! I like mine with some type of nut butter and fresh fruit. I’ve never had cherry vanilla peanut butter but it sounds gooood! And seems like it would be perfectly delicious on waffles!

Looks like you guys are having a great time! And eating quite well, too :-)
Favorite waffle toppings para mi include good ole’ peanut butter, chocolate, banana and a touch of maple. Or, if I want to go outside of the box and get creative then almond butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, cherries and shredded coconut :)

I have gotten to the point where I can’t have waffles or pancakes without chocolate chips. Preferably mini chocolate chips. I make up for it with lots of bananas and berries, too… :)

My absolute favorite waffle toppings are warmed strawberries and blueberries or peanut butter and bananas with a little bit of syrup.

Haha! Love the “swoon” comment! I’m sure I’d be swooning over that jar of PB too!

Gah, I don’t think I’ve had a waffle in almost a year! I don’t own a waffle iron since I’m much more of a pancake girl myself (as if you couldn’t guess that on your own), but whenever I DO have them, I like to keep it simple with just a pat of butter and some real maple syrup! Mmm!
