I’ve actually had to pleasure of meeting Katie in person and she is a blast! We met at Fitbloggin‘ a few months ago and she is really down to earth and fun to be around.

Go check her blog out!

What is the name of your blog and how does it describe you?

Healthy Heddleston is my blog name and it describes me because Heddleston is my last name and healthy is the descriptor because I try to lead the healthiest life possible. First off, I’m a Registered Dietitian and love to help others create a healthier life. And second, healthy has a few meansings for my own life: living a gluten-free lifestyle, staying as active as possible, enjoying occasional treats, and balancing my life in a healthy manner.

How long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging since April 1, 2010. Good thing people didn’t think it was an April Fool’s joke!

How many hours a day do you devote to blogging?

On average, I probably spend 0-2 hours a day reading blogs — it just depends on the day. However, in terms of writing my blog posts, I tend to write a whole weeks worth in one evening and then schedule them for the week. Writing 6 posts for the week can take anywhere from 3-4.5 hours depending on the topic and how distracted I let myself get.

What helped influence your decision to start blogging and the subjects you blog about?

I started blogging because I was having trouble finding a full-time RD job. I had graduated with my MS degree in August 2009, got married in September 2009, and then took my RD test (and passed) in November 2009. The job market was tough in my geographical area because many places had hiring freezers. When I posting became available, there was huge competition. Anyway, long story short, I started a part-time Private Practice of my own in January 2010 and the blog in April 2010. Initially, I just wanted to keep myself up to date with nutrition-related news, and then share that knowledge with others. Well, that initial idea lead into what my blog is now — talking about my life in many ways: recipes, nutrition news, gluten-free lifestyle, being pregnant, and more!

As a blogger, what mistakes have you made and what did you learn from them?

It took me awhile to find my blogging “voice,” but I wouldn’t call that a mistake. I learned through this that things take time and your voice will come through if you are truly being yourself.

What is the most valuable thing that you have gotten out of your blog?

My amazing in-person and online blog friends! The blogging community is so wonderfully supportive — it’s such a blessing to be a part of! I also was able to attend and speak at my first conference this year, which was incredible!

If you could describe your blog in one word, what would it be?

ME!!!

Where do you see your blog in 6 months? 1 year?

Gosh, it’s hard to know for sure, but I know I’ll definitely still be blogging! I’d hope that my readership would still be trending upward and I’d love to write an e-book in the future.

Has it been worth it?

Has it ever!

Is there anything else you want us to know?

I love hearing from you! Feel free to email me anytime at HealthyHeddleston(AT)gmail(DOT)com.

Thanks for having me Matt!

You’re welcome :)
