Nasoya Tofu Plus Review And A Recipe!

by Matt on February 5, 2011

Last week, I was graciously provided with a free coupon for Nasoya Tofu Plus from Mambo Sprouts.

Nasoya Tofu Plus is designed to meet the nutritional needs for those on a no/low meat diet and is fortified with B2, B6, B12, D and Calcium.

I am not even close to vegetarian or vegan, but I love tofu!

I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do with it, but I started out by pressing it in my tofu press.

Pressing

While my tofu was pressing, I was fooling around on Twitter. It just so happens that Monica decided what I was having for dinner!

Monica, you are awesome.

That conversation quickly led to this…

BBQ Tofu Scramble

Pan

Ingredients

  • 1 package of Nasoya Tofu Plus (or other tofu), drained and pressed
  • Olive oil
  • 1/4 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce, plus more for serving

Directions

  • In a large non-stick skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium high heat.
  • Crumbled the tofu and cook for 4-6 minutes until lightly browned, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the BBQ sauce and cook for an additional 2 minutes until heated through.

Pita

Simple, quick, and really delicious.

Anything with cheese is delicious though right? I think I have a cheese problem.

Also, Nasoya has launched something called “Tofu University” to help people incorporate more healthy tofu into their diets. As you might know, even people who enjoy tofu still often struggle to prepare the ingredient in their own kitchens. The goal of Tofu University is to help people learn how-to tips while having fun! I just recently fell in love with Tofu. After 2 horrendous and disgusting tofu flops, I finally found a tofu creation that won me over. I’m not sure if you shop at Target, but they make their own Thai Peanut Sauce. I pressed and cut the tofu into small pieces. Fried in olive oil, added the peanut sauce and already cooked sugar snap peas. I then served it over quinoa. It was delicious. Plus, I love peanut sauce. Super easy.

The only time I’ve had tofu was at a japanese restaurant in Cambridge. It was good! And I’ll definitely have to start cooking with it more often. I would probably enjoy it with bbq sauce or buffalo sauce. :-)

I.need.a.tofu.press. Period. I love baking tofu after pressing it and smothering it with pesto. So delicious.

I tried making tofu ice cream before, but it didn’t turn out so well. I’m going to need to try that one again. :)

I love tofu! I like freezing it before I cook it, it gets chewier and spongelike and absorbs whatever flavors you add to it really well.

I am a recent tofu convert…I used to hate it! I just finally found a brand I LOVE. Either that or I just didn’t know how to make it before…I’m really not sure! haha. Pairing it with BBQ sauce sounds lovely.
ItIt’s cruel of you to make me pick a single favorite way to prepare it – but I LOVE buffalo tofu sandwiches, or this orange-cashew tofu: http://healthyexposures.wordpress.com/2011/01/15/orange-cashew-tofu/ or with a lemony-basil sauce and sweet potato gnocchi: http://healthyexposures.wordpress.com/2010/12/30/trendy-tofu/
Yum. I really want some tofu now…

While I do enjoy baked tofu or eating marinated blocks, my favorite way to use tofu is to chop it up into squares and cook it in a little olive oil on the stove.

How fun! Thanks for the info. and link to the Tofu-U site…that’s awesome! And, it looks like they have some great recipes on there.

My favorite way to use tofu is to bake it in a yummy tamarind sauce and serve it with brown rice/quinoa and roasted veggies! Yum!

Even though I’m not vegetarian, I always have tofu in my kitchen. This is amazing thing if you are into sports and healthy eating, since the nutritive values of tofu provide you with so many good stuff and you avoid all the fat and carbs. Plus, it’s SO delicious!
