Terrific Tuesday

by Matt on May 11, 2011

*Have you entered my giveaway yet? It ends Friday so get on it!*

Although my post is titled “Terrific Tuesday,” it is in fact Wednesday. Trust me, I know this.

Yesterday (Tuesday) was one of the most relaxing days of my entire life.

It involved:

  • A few errands (new headphones, a 9 volt battery, a trip to the post office, and an oil change).
  • Lunch and shopping at Whole Foods.
  • A 90 minute massage.
  • An awesome Skype with the one and only VeggieGirl.
  • GLEE! Who watched last night? What did you think?

To me, that is like the perfect day. Be jealous.

I was also carded purchasing the original formula of GT’s Kombucha. In case you are unfamiliar with the story behind this phenomenon, I shall enlighten you.

If you can remember, GT’s Kombucha was pulled from Whole Foods and most health-food stores early last summer because of concerns that if the product wasn’t properly refrigerated, that once it left the manufacturing facility, the alcohol content would rise slightly above .5%.

At this point, a warning label is required and only people over the age of 21 can buy it.

To control the level of alcohol, Dave of GT’s Kombucha altered the original formula so that the amount of alcohol producing probiotics was reduced. In addition, the amount of non-alcohol producing probiotics was increased to compensate.  Each bottle contains the same number of probiotics, just in a different ratio than before.

The result?

The “Enlightened” formula with a smoother taste and shorter shelf life.

Personally, I like the original formula a lot more. I can only buy it at my “hidden gem” in Birmingham, so I always buy a few when I’m there.

Hey, the Kombucha buzz is kinda cool ;)

Moving on…

I think the highlight of the day was my Whole Foods loot…

Some produce…

DSC_0226

  • Organic, Rainforest Alliance certified bananas
  • Organic baby spinach
  • Organic (and local) sweet potatoes
  • Organic (and local) tomatoes
  • Organic grape tomatoes
  • Organic baby carrots
  • Organic potatoes (in the corner)

CHEESE…

DSC_0221

Montchevre In Blue is actually my all time favorite cheese.

Whole Foods hasn’t had it in quite awhile and I actually almost cried when I saw it yesterday. I don’t care for strong bleu cheese’s, but this one is really “grassy” and tangy. It’s one of those things that you either love or hate.

I happen to love it. Maybe a little too much…

DSC_0222

I also picked up a new sheep’s milk cheese.

I had some last night on a grilled cheese and it is worth every penny. So good.

Essential.

More essentials…

DSC_0225

  • Millet bread (my all time favorite bread)
  • Kombucha to drink with lunch
  • Organic ketchup
  • Organic potatoes
  • Brussel sprouts

DSC_0224

I also really like tofu.

I normally don’t buy pre-cooked tofu, but pressing and baking tofu can be such a hassle. This is much more convenient!

DSC_0220

I’m also totally Gaga for this hummus. Whole Foods, you are amazing.

DSC_0227

DSC_0228

I also needed to buy some laundry detergent to wash my clothes.

I know that it’s time do laundry when I run out of running shirts. Please tell me I’m not the only one.

Speaking of running…

Workout

Yesterday’s Run

I think summer has officially started. It’s going to be a long and hot one!

Has summer hit your neck of the woods?

Within a few weeks, I’m going to have to start running at 5 AM again. Lately, I’ve been going at around 7:00, but it’s still pretty warm at this time and Iit’s only going to get warmer.

Oh boy… I can’t wait!

That’s some expensive cheese! Jeez! ;)

Is it weird that I want to get carded for buying Kombucha?
Actually, I just want to get carded for everything… yes, I am still in the “ooooo I just turned 21 and I want to get carded for everything” stage. ;)

I love that you take all your groceries out of the bag and put them on the counter to take pictures. I always take everything out of the bags before I put it away and occasionally take pictures.

I love that you got carded, that’s too funny.

I thought I was nuts the first time I ever tried Kombucha and felt like I was buzzing. lol. It makes my muscles feel all tingly. Is that normal? :P The past two days it has been in the 90′s here! Monday morning I went for a 6 mile run at 7:45 AM and had a tan line by the time I got home! Crazy!

Look at your awesome food!!! I love bleu cheese so much.

MN decided to skip Spring and head into Summer this week — it is 80 degrees and HUMID all day long. It sucks! I got up at 5 to run today, felt good to get it done, but it was still so hot and sticky. Yuck!

What did you think of Glee? Loved the episode!

As for summer, Germany is so humid I can’t tell if this is their normal Spring or a tip that I should prepare for a sweaty Summer!

Yeah summer has hit here – it’s almost warm enough to wear just 3 layers and no parka! Bless England :)

Hi Matt, first time commenter here :)

Getting carded for Kombucha? Lol that’s a new one. I’m over 21 but I look ridiculously young so I hope I never have to whip out the driver’s license to buy my beloved drink; which, I have to add, I was first inspired to try after hearing you rave about it on your blog. So, thanks!

I cannot find the original formula Kombucha here! They don’t have it at Whole Foods and my other two health food stores that I go to don’t sell alcohol so they don’t sell it. Maybe I should email the company and ask them! I like the Kombucha buzz too.

Also, it was 91 degrees here.

Matt,.. Just recently started drinking kombucha and I am ADDICTED… I have never felt this good in my life, and its only been a week of drinking it everyday.

My question is, do the synergy line, and the organic raw (gingerade, multi green etc), have about the same amount of beneficial bacteria/nutrients etc… What is the major difference between the two?
