The First Thing I Did This Morning Was…

by Matt on April 30, 2012

Go check out the fitness center at my new apartment complex!

I’m actually tempted to cancel my gym membership. I basically has every piece of equipment that I’d ever need (spin bikes, arc trainer, treadmills, free weights, and a few basic weight machines) plus there is an attached fitness studio that has classes. I’m in heaven.

I’ll probably wait until the end of May to cancel my membership since I’ve already paid for the entire month. Plus, I want to make sure that I’m not missing anything and I don’t regret my decision.

The good news is that the place was dead at 5:30 AM this morning. There were a few other people, but we all just did our own thing and it wasn’t an issue. Let’s hope it’s like this every morning!

I was actually really excited that they have two arc trainers in the back. I love that machine.

When I was going to school in Alabama, my gym had several arc trainers and I fell in love with them. When I’m not in the mood to run or I just want to do something different, I can always count on a great workout on one of these things.

It’s a lot like an elliptical, but not really. It has a lower incline and the motion is a lot closer to running. See the video below for more details.

Particularly interesting is the point made about the excessive stress on the knee from the elliptical versus the arc-trainer. Maybe this is why runners absolutely HATE the elliptical (i’m one of them)…

It’s not a substitute for running, but it seems like it’s a better cross training tool for runners. I will probably continue to do it once or twice a week just to switch up my routine. Variety is the spice of life right?

Do you like the arc trainer?

Wow that’s a sweet gym, especially for an apartment! Dang. I LOVE the Arc trainer. Duke had only ONE and luckily not many people knew of it’s awesomeness. I miss that machine!

Best. Apartment. Gym. Ever.

I’ve never used an arc trainer before! My Anytime Fitness doesn’t even have one haha. That video was actually really interesting, especially since I’ve been using the elliptical pretty often lately. I didn’t realize there were knee injuries associated with it.

I LOVE the Arc Trainer!
I wrote a blog post about my love affair with it a couple of months ago. There’s actually some pretty good evidence to show that it works more muscles and results in a higher calorie burn (as a consequence) than some of it’s competitors.

That is the nicest apartment gym I’ve ever seen! I wish my place had just half of that stuff. Those arc trainers are great… and all the weight machines!

What an awesome set up for an apartment complex gym! If I had something like that, I would definitely save the 35 bucks month I am forking out to the gym! Jealous!!

I used to do it all the time sophomore year (they have one at my campus gym as well) but I haven’t done it in forever and mostly use the bike for cross training. But, now that you’ve mentioned it, I may have to revert!

I go to about 4 different LA Fitnesses depending on where I’m coming from and only one of them, and it’s not even the nice one, has an Arc Trainer.

Thumbs up, ARC trainer! That’s my preferred cross-training machine, too: I love swinging up on that thing with a good book for an hour. Looks like you’ve got a pretty great fitness room setup there! I’m jeal.

What an amazing gym! I am way jealous. My apartment complex has a pretty small gym (3 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, 2 bikes, weights, etc.), and it’s sufficient for me, but it gets way crowded on weekend mornings. I would love to have free access to fitness classes!

Wow that’s an incredible fitness center, wish the one at my apt complex was that big. Mine is very small, most of the time I can find machines available but sometimes it’s a miss. Looks like you won’t have that problem at yours though, plenty of equipment!
