#Whole30 Day 4

by Matt on February 13, 2013

Good evening!

Day 4 is about to be complete, but let me tell you, today was tough.

  • My fire alarm decided to have a low battery at 2 AM, so I didn’t sleep well
  • I felt really crappy for most of the morning. I felt sore and very low on energy, but I’m sure this will pass. My body just needs to adjust to a MUCH lower carb intake
  • I really really wanted a sandwich for lunch. I didn’t have one though!
  • My stomach is still a little wonky. I think it’s because of my increased fat intake

Hmm, not much else to report. Let’s hope I have more energy tomorrow!

Sleep

7ish hours

Workout

A very very slow 9 miles

Pre-workout: Three dates dipped in sunflower seed butter

Breakfast: Another egg scramble! This one had chicken, butternut squash, onion, green and red peppers, and garlic. It was awesome.

And my daily banana of course.

Lunch: Baby spinach salad with chicken, avocado, tomatoes, and leftover roasted veggies; Apple with almond butter

Just throwing this out there . . . but to help ease into the lower carb intake, maybe increasing the portion size of veggies you have with each meal might help? They do have carbs (that are acceptable for the paleo diet!). Just an idea. But maybe today was just an off day? See if you continue to feel the lack of energy or if it changes–I think different people have different needs. :)

Ohh man, I gotta try coconut butter on a sweet tater. That sounds delish. Way to complete another day, one step closer to 30!

Your dinner looks exactly like something I would make right down to the sweet potato+coconut butter:) So many good eats, Matt!

A low battery on the fire alarm is one of the worst things ever! So annoying.
All your meals look awesome! I need to add butternut squash to an egg scramble. I’ve never tired it!

Can the body adjust to having a lower carb intake? I know that every time I cut out carbs in the past, the longer I went without them, the worse I felt… and the higher amount of protein and fat always did quite a number on my stomach as well.

I ate quite a bit of sweet potato when I was transitioning. Now I don’t eat it at all really and I don’t eat much squash. My body does just fine on a pretty low carb diet. Maybe make sure you cook your breakfast in a good amount of fat instead of relying on the almond butter as your fat in the morning? Maybe avocado? Maybe saving the banana until mid morning for a little burst of energy? I see a lot of nut butter which is not totally whole 30 approved. They say in the book to avoid nuts and nut butters… Maybe replace it with coconut oil and avocado? Just some thoughts… :)
