Why I Love Cheese

by Matt on March 27, 2012

I love cheese. That’s a fact.

Actually, who doesn’t?

Lo and behold, there is a very good reason for this. The intense flavors. The textures. The melty goodness. The way it accents fruit, eggs, and salads. Of course, you can’t forget the infamous grilled cheese sandwich.

By the way, this is my newest obsession…

Applewood Smoked Goat Cheddar

Over the years, I’ve tasted dozens of different cheeses. Each has a different flavor, aroma, and texture.

  • It’s the ultimate no-junk, fast food. Apple slices and cheese are one of my favorite snacks!
  • It has the most incredible range of flavours and textures. There’s even a cheese for every mood!
  • It lends itself to an amazing variety of recipes
  • It’s pure comfort food. Especially when it’s melted.

A lot of people give cheese a bad rap for being high in fat (mainly saturated), but it can easily fit into a healthy diet.

Not only is cheese is a source of high quality protein and calcium, but it’s also a good source of phosphorus, zinc, viatmin A, riboflavin, and vitamin B12.

Reduced fat cheese is good for someone who is trying to cut calories, but I would much rather eat a smaller portion of the real thing. A little bit of full fat cheese goes a long way can I can really add a lot of flavor to a meal or snack.

Do you like cheese? How do you incorporate it in your diet?

I go back and forth with cheeses actually! Right now I haven’t bought any in a long time but I do enjoy goat cheese when I’m out and sometimes. And other favorites are manchego and extra sharp cheddar.

I heart cheese. My allergist wanted me to try cutting out dairy, and I told her that I already have to give up a lot of things, and cheese will not be one of them, so I will except that my nose runs when I eat it! I do eat a lot of reduced fat cheeses these days, and I recently found that Trader Joe’s Reduced Fat Celtic Cheddar has awesome flavor and melts well!

I love cheese and am in fact a part of a nonprofit called FeelGood that raises money for The Hunger Project by selling gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches! However, my tummy doesn’t love cheese quite as much as my taste buds. So, I tend to stick to strong cheeses (goat cheese and boursin are my favorites!) since, as you say, you can get away with just using a little!

I LOVE cheese! I’ll put it on sandwiches, on homemade pizzas, mixed in salads and with pasta, and with mexican foods :) . So tasty!

I didn’t used to be a big cheese eater, but these days I find that I keep at least 3-4 kinds on hand at all times! YUM.
Tonight I made a chickpea burger with feta inside :)

I only like very basic cheeses like cheddar, mozzarella, monterey jack, etc. Although I do like feta and goat. But that’s about it. Can we still be friends?

I have an intense love affair with cheese. I have tried on several occasions to completely eliminate dairy. It always falls apart because of the cheese affair. haha

I do miss cheese. The fancier the better. Bonus points if it incorporates truffles, red wine and/or dark chocolate.

I am until the end of this month (for the March vegan challenge). Then I think cheese must return. And eggs. Mmmm… egg and cheese sandwich…

cheese is awesome. And applewood smoked goat cheese is probably one of my favorites too!! In college my friends and I used to have classy wine and cheese parties – we’d get all dressed up and have wine, crackers, cheese, grapes, etc etc. Actually, if you ever find yourself in Williamsburg, go to The Cheese Shop….I have a feeling you could spend hours in there hahaha. They have every kind of cheese imaginable! I think smoked gouda is probably one of my favorite standbys.

That meal there is fit for a king! Jealous. I LOVE cheese. I used to avoid it like the plague because it screamed FAT to me. Now one of my favorite things to order out is a cheese plate. Nothing better! I love pizza too, with interesting flavorful cheeses like goat, brie, or gorgonzola. I think I’d die over that applewood smoked goat, oh my gosh!

I love cheese, but I am certainly NOT a stinky cheese fan. There was an incident when I had to immediately buy some gum after sampling a particularly potent wedge.
